Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
UpStart seeks a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Justice Manager. They will be responsible for promoting DEIJ, in a systematic way, with an initial focus on the design and execution of initiatives to promote equity and inclusion-based learning for internal stakeholders (coaching, all-staff training, etc.) while also responding to on-demand requests for DEIJ support across the organization. This role will report to the Managing Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Justice and work closely with the People & Culture Team. This role is expected to travel up to 2 times a year for in-person events
RESPONSIBILITIES
Accessibility and Inclusion
- Oversees the creation and monitoring of internal and external accessibility initiatives
- Coordinates and participates in the facilitation of internal equity-audits and related data monitoring and analysis
- Assists with monitoring and fulfillment of accommodations requests from external stakeholders
- Design and implement new internal initiatives to drive employee belonging
Staff Learning and Development
- Supports the creation and monitoring of the staff learning and development related to DEIJ
- Assists with the design for embedding UpStart’s organizational values into the employee lifecycle (through learning and development)
- Collaborates with leadership to create, implement, and monitor programs designed to ensure fair and equitable treatment of staff
- Creates and monitors the DEIJ resource center
- Coordinates and oversees internal staff programming and meetings as relevant, namely cultural learning sessions (“Water Coolers”) and monthly staff engagement meetings (“Pump it Up”)
- Oversees Paradigm Reach staff learning platform
- Develops and implements staff and management training to promote cultural understanding and competency and a climate of equity and inclusion
- Coordinates quarterly DEIJ Check-in calls with DEIJ key implementers
DEIJ Support
- Researches and recommends creative strategies to implement the DEIJ initiatives embedded in UpStart’s strategic plan
- Maintains knowledge of DEIJ best practices both within and outside of the Jewish sector to help provide guidance to team members
- Assists with on-demand support for equity-based questions concerning programmatic design (newsletter, postings, etc.)
- Supports and advocates for teammates who are being impacted by issues of equity and inclusion when needed in partnership with HR, supervisor and others
- Supports UpStart’s recruitment and retention strategies, especially as related to underrepresented identities ?

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 1-2 years of experience connected to diversity, equity, and inclusion work in addition to 1-3 years experience in a connected field. Connected work experiences can include, but are not limited to, human resources, business management, pipeline development, internship management, and/or education and human services
- Commitment to integrating a diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice lens into every piece of their work
- Understanding of allyship especially for traditionally underrepresented groups (JoCISM/BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and/or people with disabilities)
- Ability to work with and lead adult learners
- Ability to give and receive feedback and coaching
- Experience with leading initiatives connect to accessibility
- Ability to accomplish tasks individually while also embracing the benefit of working with a team
- Self-awareness which results in authentic relationship building and a growth mindset
- Equity-based data analysis which includes understanding trends, gaps, and next steps
