Job Description

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and implement cash management policies with special emphasis on the working capital fund, endowments, and program development funds;
  • Develop and implement a sound investment strategy for AFMDA in concert with the Finance and Investment Committees of the National Board. Ensure proper ongoing investment management;
  • Develop accounting reporting policies relative to nationwide fundraising campaigns;
  • Coordinate the preparation of the organizational budget for the annual and strategic planning processes;
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance with specific emphasis on cash flow, project expenses and restricted funds;
  • Ensure an orderly and legal procedure of distributing the funds raised by AFMDA in a manner consistent with the donor’s intent;
  • Oversight of staff on all financial matters related to AFMDA, including the Israel office, the regional offices, and the national headquarters office;
  • Ensure complete and up-to-date operating procedures for all accounting and financial controls;
  • Ensure maintenance of effective internal controls to assure safeguarding of assets and reliability of financial statements;
  • Assist in resolving accounting and financial problems or issues;
  • Oversee the preparation of all financial statements and audit preparation documents;
  • Develop, negotiate, and maintain business and financial relationships with banks and auditors;
  • Ensure all state charitable solicitation filings, state sales tax and sales tax-exempt filings, Better Business Bureau and National Charities Information Bureau filings, IRS information returns, and IRS unrelated business income tax returns are completed and filed in a timely and accurate manner;
  • Make recommendations to the Finance & Audit Committees and Board of Directors to improve the overall financial health of the organization;
  • Assist in preparing special cost studies as needed;
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the CEO and Board of Directors.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position oversees the Finance Department of 5 staff members. This position will be required to assist in the recruitment of finance and accounting staff and prepare and deliver performance evaluations of subordinate staff.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or related field; CPA or MBA required;
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive international accounting experience with an emphasis on US and Israel financial relations, non-profit experience a plus; and
  • Strong financial strategic planning skills.
  • Experience with financial oversight which includes currency conversion (US dollar to Israel’s shekel) within multiple revenue and expense budgets.

Skills Required

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, particularly as they apply to not-for-profit organizations;
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections;
  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, follow-through with projects, and strong attention to detail;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with direct experience in working with and presenting to Boards;
  • Collaborative management and working style with a diverse workforce;
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills with ability to delegate, train, coach, and motivate staff;
  • Knowledge of NetSuite a plus;
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with demonstrated experience in accounting software); and
  • Energetic self-starter with demonstrated ability to think strategically, tactically, and creatively.

Compensation
A competitive compensation package will be offered to attract an outstanding candidate.  The salary range is $250,000 to $275,000; the salary will be commensurate with experience.
